Trey proudly served four years of active duty in the U.S. Navy. His first deployment took him to the Persian Gulf during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003, where he worked as a Professional Mariner. His responsibilities included logistics, navigation, search and rescue, and security—critical roles that showcased his skill and dedication. Just before his honorable discharge, Trey was given the opportunity to serve on a humanitarian mission to Haiti in 2005, an experience that left a lasting impact on him.
Life after the military brought both promise and challenges. One year after leaving service, Trey was arrested for a DUI—a wake-up call that pushed him to redirect his energy into education. Using the GI Bill, he earned an Associate’s Degree, a Bachelor’s Degree from Northern Arizona University, and later an MBA from Grand Canyon University. During this time, Trey married and welcomed a son, and for a while, life seemed to be moving in the right direction. Yet, beneath the surface, he struggled with unresolved pain. Eventually, he was diagnosed with PTSD and deemed 100% disabled through the VA.
Currently, Trey is serving a two-and-a-half-year sentence for a second DUI. He is scheduled for release in January 2026, at the age of 42. Rather than letting this time go to waste, Trey has committed himself to growth and recovery. He has completed a DUI class, participated in an Outpatient Substance Abuse Program, and engaged in a Veterans Outreach Program that emphasized leadership development, cognitive behavioral therapy, emotional well-being, and camaraderie among fellow veterans.
Looking ahead, Trey’s goals are clear and honorable. He plans to reestablish housing on the Navajo Reservation, regain custody of his 13-year-old son, and restore his civil rights. With his education and experience, he hopes to return to work in the logistics and transportation field, using his skills to serve others.
Above all, Trey’s ultimate dream is simple yet profound: to raise his son and live peacefully on the Reservation. His story is one of resilience, determination, and the unwavering hope of building a better future—for himself, his family, and his community.
